The 571D270 has a display panel with a main display area plus mode, timer and lock behavior. The manual explains that a system fault automatically releases a locked panel, and that the previous lock state returns after the fault is serviced. That behavior can help explain why the keypad suddenly appears available. Take a photograph before pressing arrows or changing mode. The display is designed to communicate the code and let additional codes be viewed, but it does not make diagnosis inside the heat pump an owner task. PDF page 28 states that the main display area shows a code when the water heater develops a fault and lists nine published fault values. If more than one fault exists, the Up or Down Arrow key can reveal the additional code in the same area. Record every value in order rather than reporting only the first. The manual gives a narrowly documented reset attempt for E01 and says recurring E01 or the other listed faults require service. It also explicitly says E09 is not a fault code, so this site excludes E09 from the fault dictionary.
